Western Putnam Economic Development Council
OUR MISSION
Created as a not for profit organization, the Western Putnam Economic Development Council was established in February of 2006 for the purpose of preserving and developing the Hudson Highlands region of Putnam County, New York. By bringing together the businesses, not-for-profit organizations, open spaces, state and local parks, and “Preserve America” sites along the Hudson River the WPEDC has led the way in the efforts to revitalize the community for the 21st century. The WPEDC mission is to improve the infrastructure, expand the local economy while protecting the community, support the historical institutions, and bring visitors to the area.
Since February 2006, the WPEDC has encouraged the participation in its ongoing process by hosting a series of presentations. Members of the community, businesses, landlords, schools, organizations and government have been invited to contribute to the initiatives put forth by the WPEDC.
Community participation and involvement are the foundations for the work of the WPEDC. It actively supports the preservation of the area treasures while fostering growth. The Hudson Highlands are rich in natural and historic significance. The WPEDC addresses issues from improving the infrastructure of the villages as well as focusing on growth opportunities for the region. The WPEDC carefully balances the needs of a sustainable community with the desire for economic viability in the 21st Century.
